Jacqui Harper is a familiar face to millions of viewers nationally through her work as a television presenter. To hundreds of young people from North London, however, Jacqui represents a different face when she runs leadership training programmes as a volunteer for the North London Mentor Trust. And it's for voluntary work over ten years with many organisations like the Trust that Jacqui was awarded the MBE. |

| Success | |
| Says Jacqui, “I owe my success in television
to two black women who mentored me when I was working in San Francisco.
They took me into newsrooms, took me out on the road, helped me
apply for jobs and generally encouraged me. When I came back to
London I decided I wanted to do the same for other people. “The North London Mentor Trust is a wonderful organisation. It's been running for ten years and it helps about 50 young people each year. We are proud that the programme has been a huge success to the extent that some of the young people have even gone on to university”. The skills which Jacqui uses to help young people are exactly the same ones she employs in her own business, Crystal Business Training, but the audience is different. |

| Business | |
| As
managing director of Crystal Business Training, Jacqui teaches
some of the country’s top business leaders how to get their
message across. Says Jacqui, “It doesn't matter whether clients are talking to colleagues, to potential customers, to politicians or to other business leaders the skills are the same. We teach them how to convey their message effectively, to have confidence and to present themselves positively. |

| Honour | |
| “That's also what we try to do for young black students in North London. It's a great honour to have been given an award for doing something I enjoy so much.” | |
